The Musical Island Boys are now the best male barbershop quartet in New Zealand, and in the Pan Pacific Region (New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Hawaii). The Pan Pacific title they will hold until 2008.
The Musical Island Boys have achieved a goal that they have longed to reach, now becoming the highest scoring quartet in New Zealand history. They competed in the preliminary round on Friday Morning, and were placed in the top 14 to go through to the finals. They competed that evening in the finals, and were announced as champions and most entertaining quartet later on Friday Night. It was a very emotional time!

On
Saturday Morning, the Musical Island Boys competed with the Harbour
Capital Chorus from Wellington, who eventually placed 3rd in the
NZABS Open Chorus Competition. They also competed with the Wellington
Youth Chorus who were singing only for evaluation.
The Musical Island Boys would like to congratulate all the other competitors
for making the convention such a memorable one. Special congratulations to
our chorus, Habour
Capital Chorus who placed third, and our awesome friends from
the Wellington Youth Chorus. Congratulations to our friends
from The Blenders in Australia, who won the Pan Pacific Chorus,
and our friends from The City
of Sails, Auckland who won the New Zealand Open Chorus Competition.
Congratulations also to Pastime, who won both the New Zealand
and Pan Pacific Seniors titles. We would also like to congratulate the Canterbury
Plainsmen for organising such a fine convention. We would also like
to thank Checkpoint quartet, for their support and especially
Rob Grieve who really looked after us in Christchurch. Congratulations
to all competitors from Australia, Hawaii and Japan for making this a truly
International convention.

The Musical Island Boys have so many people to thank. First and foremost, we give our praise to God for being with us every step of the way. We would like to thank our amazing coach, Charlotte Murray, who has always had complete faith in us. We would like to thank our families, the Hunkins, Washburns and Giffords for their unfailing love and support. We would also like to the Shona Murray (HOD Music, Tawa College), our assisting coach Peter McGregor, the members of the Harbour Capital Chorus and Wellington Youth Chorus. We would like to thank the New Zealand Association, all of our brother and sister quartets and choruses from around New Zealand. We would like to thank all the competitors from outside New Zealand for making the convention so special. We would like to thank our visiting coaches Ben Ayling, Gary Bolles and Doug Harrington. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us from the start. Especially the Staff and Students from Tawa College, who have been with us since we began at school. Everyone who has been to one of our performances, who made a donation, who prayed for us and who supported us. We KNOW that we are only here because of you.
